Calm, exotic, clean or simply beautiful, are just some of the words that can describe the Prainha, meaning “little beach” in portuguese. This charming beach is very recommended for your trip to Rio.
Surrounded by the green hills of the Atlantic rainforest, Prainha beach presents white sand and a breathtaking scenery. It is one of the favorite places of surfers given the rough and its powerful fast waves (especially when the south winds are blowing). Actually, if you are thinking in surfing, then Guarda do Embau (a camping and cottages site) is a good option near Prainha.
Even though there are many restaurants in Prainha with a great view to the ocean, you may not find as many sellers as in the other beaches, so make sure to bring all your staff to your beach day.
There are surf buses that can take you to Prainha in a 1 hour and 30 minutes trip. On the other hand, in the case you have a car, take either the Avenida Niemeyer or Linha Amarella towards Barra de Tijuca, pass Barra and drive the Estado da Guanabara to Recreio. Once you have passed Recreiro, Macumba and Pontal beaches, you will be about to arrive to Prainha beach.
