Flamengo is a small beach in Rio de Janeiro considered and excellent spot for practicing beach sports and relaxing. Flamengo beach has an interesting history because it used to be an exclusive destiny for ship’s luntil the 19th century, when the area turned into a residential neighborhood and the beach became popular. Nowadays Flamengo has more than 60,000 inhabitants.

Flamengo has had many names in the past, such as "Uruçumirim Beach" (Indian name), "Sapateiros'" (Shoe man beach), "Carioca Beach", "Marinheiros Beach", and "Sapocaitoba Beach". Those who travel to Rio should know that the water in Flamengo beach is quite polluted and it is not recommended to swim here.

Inside Flamengo neighborhood it is located the "Flamengo Embankment", which is one of the most important areas of entertainment and tourist attractions of the city. This area has 1.2 Km. square and was opened in 1964.

Some of the main tourist attractions of Flamengo neighborhood are the Church of Gloria do Outeiro, the Historical Museum of the Republic, the Guanabara Palace and the Flamengo Park.
