Copacabana is one of the most famous beaches in the world. The long Copacabana beach stretches from Posto Dois (lifeguard post two) to Posto Seis (lifeguard post six) for 4 kilometers in which hotels, restaurants, bars, night clubs and residential buildings beautify its striking promenade. In addition, there are a wide variety of activities to do in Copacabana, from beach sports to stalls where food or clothes can be bought.
Copacabana beach is divided into posts, to which is important to keep an eye out if you don’t want to feel like a "fish out of water". The Leme for example, is the section of the beach where usually older residents and favela children hang out, while the area between the Copacabana Palace Hotel and Rua Fernando Mendes -commonly known as “The stock market”- is the gay and transsexual section. There is also a specific section near Rua Santa Clara where football and foot-voley players meet. Finally, next to the Copacabana Fortress it is the fishermen's section, where the fresh catch of the day can be bought in the morning.
Millions of cariocas and tourists enjoy Copacabana every year, attracted by the beautiful tanned bodies, the beach spectacles and the tasty caipirinhas. This incredible beach is a meeting point during the New Year’s Eve celebration, and has also been host of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
